This hymn is an extract from Yajurveda which is one of the four Vedas, (Rigveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda being the other three), which are regarded as ancient books. The date of the Vedas is unknown. But they are surely among the most ancient literary works of the world. They deal with the Deity, Creation and Existence. In this hymn the divine Essence, THE PEERLESS SPIRIT and THE DEATHLESS FLAME are invoked to put the will in the Mind (Jivatma) to do only what is good. There is a divine nature of the spirit of man which is also a part of the divine essence (Spirit of God). The wise men that are perfect in observing rituals are controlled by that divine nature. As the fleet-footed horses are controlled by reins so our fleshly desires are controlled by the Mind in us.

May that by which wise men, skilful in rituals
and steady in assemblies, perform their tasks….
that peerless Spirit that lies in all creatures,
may that my Mind resolve on what is good.
May that which is deep knowledge, intellect, memory
that which is the deathless Flame in living beings,
without which nothing whatever is done,
may that my Mind resolve on what is good.
May that w'hich guides men like a good charioteer
who controls fleet-footed horses w'ith the reins,
that which abides in the heart, most swift and active,
may that my Mind resolve on what is good.

It is the prayer in which the poet recites hymns to apply his mind in positive direction.

For all the qualities of wise man and a flawless spirit to make good goals in life.

Search for knowledge of the highest level to accomplish great tasks.

Poet requests God to be his charioteer and control his thoughts and emotions which are running swiftly like a free horse.
