'Green Parrots in a Cage' is a short story written by Gopi Gahua. The story is grounded on 1947 partition between India and Pakistan, and the state of people, who were forced to live their lands and houses behind.

In the story, a parrot seller urges the narrator to buy parrots from him as he need money to buy ticket to go home in Kutch. The narrator buys parrot from him, first to help him, and second, because her son got fond of the parrtots. But while feeding the birds, the mother's hand (the narrator) were nipped by the birds in rage, so they decided to leave the birds behind under someone's care, but no one was found to take care of them. So, they set the birds free. But the birds were first hesitant to step out of the cage, but flew after that. This story tells of the people also who had to leave their home, hestantingly.
