The story 'His First Flight' is written by 'Liam O' Flaherty' with reference to the fear of losing in first trial.

The young seagull was afraid of flying. His family members were beckoning him to fly and threatened him to starve if he won't take his first flight. The seagull, however, believed that his wings would not support him and hence he would drown in the vast sea. He just ran away and hid himself in the small hole in the ledge.

He saw his brothers and sister soaring in the sky, yet he was afraid to fly. When the sun started descending, he came out of the whole and stood on the brink of ledge with his one leg and pretended to fell asleep, though he was hungry. None of his family members but her mother was looking at him. She held a fish and then started scrapping her beak. The seagull cried, begging her for food. Her mother then took the piece of fish and moved towards him. Though she stopped a few metres in front of him. The seagull was confused and called her, but her mother was flying motionless. In control of hunger, the seagull jumped from the ledge to grab the food. He forgot that he was afraid to fly. He started falling downwards, but soon his wings opened automatically and he fell no more. He was flying. He was not a expert in flying yet, but he wasn't falling. His family members started flying around him, encouraged him and showed their happiness. However soon after the seagull became dizzy and started to fall, he had no energy. He was afraid of sinking in the sea but as his belly touched the water, he sank no more. He was floating. He finally overcame his fear of falling.

The story tells us to take risks in life, because we lose 100% of what we don't try.
