Summary of The Hundred Dresses - I (Part 1)
- Wanda Petronski - She was a young Polish girl. She used to sit in a corner of her classroom and no one noticed her much. No one gets a notice about her absence in the class. Peggy and Madeline used to make fun of her and laugh at her, they noticed her absence on Wednesday. She was teased for her lengthy name that was different and unusual for others.
- Teasing and harassing of Wanda - As Wanda used to wear only one dress which was faded blue. Peggy and other girls used to ask about her dresses. She used to reply that she had one hundred dresses. They used to ask her all day. Peggy also asks her how many pairs of shoes she has. Peggy was cruel towards Wanda but she didn't know it. Peggy thought she would be telling a lie.
- Maddie's attitude towards Wanda - Maddie was also a poor girl like Wanda. She was sympathetic towards Wanda. She did not want that Peggy should tease Wanda. She tried to write a note to Peggy about it, but due to lack of courage, she tore it.
- Drawing colour contest - It was held in school. Girls designed dresses, boys designed motorboats. As Peggy was good at designing she thought she would win the contest.
- Wanda wins the contest - When Peggy and Maddie entered the class they saw beautiful drawings of dresses. The teacher announced the winner of the contest. The winner was Wanda. But she was absent.
Summary of The Hundred Dresses - II (Part 2)
- Letter from Wanda's Father - Wanda's father's name was Jan Petronski. The class teacher gets a letter from Mr. Jan Petronski and read in the class. She said that Wanda would not come to school anymore. Wanda's father also said that now in a big city where no one would tease her about her long and funny name. The whole class was stunned and silent.
- Maddie's feelings - She was really upset. She felt guilty. If she would object to Peggy's making fun of Wanda then nothing would happen like this. She wanted to make amends. She didn't afraid Peggy afterward.
- Peggy and Maddie went to Boggins Height - They went there to say sorry to Wanda but Wanda was not present there. They got to know that Wanda had already left the place.
- Maddie's resolution - She was not able to sleep properly. Now she decided that she would speak up if someone billies others, she would never make anyone sad.
- Maddie and Peggy write a letter to Wanda - They wrote a letter to Wanda telling her that they were very sorry for what they did. And also told that she had won the contest.
- Wanda's letter - The class got the letter from Wanda at Christmas. The class teacher read the letter. Wanda wrote that she wants Peggy to take her painting of a green dress and Maddie to take her blue dress painting. Maddie found her face in the painting and showed Peggy that Wanda had made their face in the respective paintings. It means that Wanda loved them a lot.
