Summary of 'I Was Sitting by My Window'
Answers
Explanation:
I was sitting by my window
as I always do each morning
when a strange thing started happening
without the slightest warning.
It began by raining buckets,
several dustpans and a broom,
and a box of sponges landed
near the window with a boom.
Several mops appeared from nowhere
And with playfulness and skill
They paraded in formation
and they danced upon the sill.
Then a dozen cans of cleanser
and a hundred bars of soap,
spun in circles ’round my bedroom
like a spiral gyroscope.
They did pirouettes and pivots.
They performed a song-and-dance.
Then they finished with a combination
wiggle, waltz and prance.
Then they just as quickly vanished,
turning cartwheels ‘cross the floor,
they went bounding out the window
and they tumbled out the door.
I have no idea what happened,
so I guess I’ll just assume
this is someone’s way of telling me
that I should clean my room.
— Linda Knaus and Kenn Nesbitt
Answer:
The poem “I was Sitting by My Window” is written by Linda Knaus and Kenn Nesbitt where the poet
tells everyone to keep their room tidy and clean. The poet tells the reader that following his usual
morning routine he woke up and sat by his window looking out. He observed certain unusual things
happening that too without any warning. Cleaning items like buckets, dustpans, brooms, mops,
cleanser and bars of soap started raining. These items paraded and danced upon the sill as if
performing ballet, waltz etc. Thus, personifying the inanimate objects. They vanished as quickly as
they appeared, giving a hint to the poet that it was high time he cleaned his room. The poet did not
have any idea of what was happening but, he made a guess that it must be his inner conscious telling
him that it should be his moral duty to keep his room clean and tidy and to let go of the bad habit of
procrastinating things.
