In this poem, she makes a sad comment about how a magnificent species of bird, the crane, is dying out. Future generations, she says grimly, will only know of cranes of another kind in their 'new cities'. Future generations should also see the beauty of the cranes....As the quote says.."The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom"............
