My Tibetanness is a poem that airs the cry of refugees. The poem talks about the life of Tibetan faced people like those from Thailand, China, Nepal and Japan among others forced to be refugees in India. They are forced to accept Indian culture and be assimilated in the community. However, this does not make things easier because they are bullied for being citizens to no nation and people of a lost country. In spite of their cries, no other nation comes to their aid.

Explanation:

Tenzin Tsundue is a Tibetan Indian. He was born in India, but his parents came to India in the 1960's from Tibet as refugees during the China war. Since then, the term Tibetan Indian has stuck to these refugees although Tenzin has never been to Tibet.

In this poem My Tibetanness, he brings forth his woes at not being identified with his country and his longing to go back to Tibet. He feels sad that every year he has to renew his status in India as a Tibetan refugee, although he has never been to Tibet.

He yearns for some country to assimilate and take them in wholeheartedly. He wishes some nation would support them. He dreams of dying in Tibet.

This is an emotional poem of the difficulties and emotional stress that refugees have to undergo in any country.
