Answer:

The poem night of the scorpion was written by Nissim Ezekiel. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award in 1983 for his poetry collection latter day psalms.

In this poem , the poet depicts the selfless love of a mother who is stung by a scorpion. She suffers a lot because of the pain. but, still happy that the scorpion didn't bite her children. The poet goes back to the night when his mother is bitten by a scorpion. on hearing this incident , the villagers come like swarm of flies to console the family. They also spread a lot of superstitious beliefs. They insisted that it was necessary for the scorpion to stay alive. The father who is sceptic and rationalist tried all sorts of medicines to cure the mother. He even tried a little paraffin upon the bitten toe. The pain subsided after 20 hours. The mother was found grateful that the scorpion spared her children.
