The boy Tip lives with the old woman Mombi , who's his guardian. But Tip doesn't like Mombi. So he runs away from Mombi's home in the Purple Gillikin Country of the North. In the Emerald City, he meets the Scarecrow , the King of Oz. But the Scarecrow quickly is deposed by an all female army of revolt under a woman named Jinjur .

The Scarecrow and Tip then go to the Tin Woodman in the Yellow Winkie Country of the West. The three return to the Emerald City. Once there, the Scarecrow releases into the royal palace field mice that he has hidden under his vest.

At first, Jinjur flees in flight. But she calms down and has her soldier girls blockade the palace. What with all the doors blocked, the Scarecrow and his two companions build a flying machine to leave the City by air. At Glinda 's castle in the Red Quadling Country of the South, they learn that the rightful ruler of Oz is the late Pastoria , who preceded the Wizard .

Pastoria had a daughter named Ozma . But Glinda doesn't know where Ozma is. Tip and his companions return to the Emerald City with Glinda. They recapture the Emerald City. Mombi is inside the city, and is taken prisoner. Mombi had concealed Ozma. But she admits to having transformed Ozma into the boy Tip.

So Glinda transforms Tip back into Ozma. Ozma then becomes the next ruler.and her friends are live with her in the emerald city and they live happily ever after.
