The narrator states that he has tested desire and stood with those who favor fire. However, when it comes to perishing for by two things; he only thinks of hate as the second option. That is the destruction by ice. He sees an ice as a great destruction just like fire.

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

this is the whole poem it's basically saying some peoples point of views on how the world will end are completely different
