James Reeve, in his poem 'Statue' expresses the awe of the speaker when he sees a statue in the market place built on a high square base. He doesn't know how old the statue is , nor does he know the good things that were done by that man long ago. To him, his square face seems 'solemn and sad' and inscription at the square base in some foreign tongue illegible. The strong wind has no effect on his clothes and he sits there with one hand on his knee and the other pointing at the speaker. The speaker is so afraid that he can neither stay nor go and wonders what the stone gentleman has to say to him.
THANKS AND HOPE IT HELPS
