Wandering Singers
-Sarojini Naidu

This poem is about wandering singers their life and all about what they do in their life and experiences. The wandering singers wander (travel) here and there. They consider all people as their family and relatives and the world as their home. The band of folk singers wander town to town and villages to villages to spread the message of love through their singing. They play the lute. The voice of the wind symbolizes the welcoming tone of the song that echoes through the forest and streets. The theme of the song that they sing goes back to stories of ancient battles or of old kings. They also have the song about the beauty of women and about happy and sad things. The wandering singers have no hopes and dreams of their own. They go wherever the winds call them. No love can make them go slow or no joy can bade them to wait. The voice of the wind is the voice of their life and also their destiny.

Where the voice of the winds call
our wandering feet,
Through echoing forest and
echoing streets,
With lutes in our hands
ever singing, we roam,
All men are our kindred, the
world is our home
Our lays are of cities whose lustre
is shed,
The laughter and beauty of
women long dead;
The sword of old battles, the
crown of old kings,
And happy and simple and
sorrowful things.
What hope shall we gather, what
dreams shall we sow,
Where the winds call our
wandering footsteps we go.
No love bids us tarry, no joy
wids us wait:
The voice of our wind is the voice
of our fate.

Hope this will help you : )
