Answer:

Saina Nehwal

"Saina’s biggest asset is her unrelenting patience. Right from the beginning it was clear to her that the only thing that she needed to win a game was a combination of dedication and hard work. And so, she would patiently just keep at it with power and grit" - Pullela Gopichand

Saina Nehwal’s parents, Dr Harvir Singh Nehwal and Usha Rani, were both badminton champions in their time. With a deep knowledge and love for the game, they surrendered their lives wholeheartedly to the collective dream of building a national champion and remain Saina’s greatest patrons and her staunchest critics.

It took Saina less than a decade to reach the top, challenge the domination of the Chinese in badminton, and give a cricket-obsessed India a new sport to consume itself in. Aged twenty five, she is the firstIndian woman to claim the number one position on the global stage of badminton.Known widely for her quiet determination, unwaveringfocus and a complete disregard for frills and flounce, in Saina, India has discovered a unique icon.

"You have to be hard [if] you want to be good. Especially in India nobody did so well in badminton. It’s a very difficult sport. The game has become so fast [that] you don’t have time to even think. The rallies are very fast, and there is a lot of strain on your legs. I have not seen a girl from India as physically strong [as the Chinese]. I changed all of that and showed Indians that we can beat [not just the] Chinese but any other player"
