Maugham was born in Paris in 1874 .his parents died when he was just a small child.but a student in St. Thomas hospital got to know the life of the poor people in London...this book basically tells 30 years of Maugham's life.
this novel tells the love story of a couple never-ever going together
in the beginning of the story it is said that a boy of young age consisting of a wide smile....ever going happy with care-free eyes.
and his childhood ...he mostly likes lying in the beaches helping his beloved father in the yard...when he madly loved or sought a pretty girl he left his village as well as military works.
and he was homesick ...and loved the girl really hard....and during his military jobs as he worked outside he had a strong desire to return back home and love the pretty looking girls....but after some time he refused to love the girl due to his illness.
at the end the girl was willing to marry him...and finally he marries the pretty looking girl
