In this poem Joseph Addison describes a fictional friend Sir Roger. He went to the theatre along with the poet to see a new tragic play.
He tells poet that he hasn't seen even a single play since the last 20
years. The last play he saw was a good English church comedy which wasted
his time.
He is also curious to know about his friend Hector's widow and praises Hector to be a brave man.
