The writer is a grownup and he described his childhood experiences.  The narrator did not have a joyful childhood. After the divorce of his parents, his father started working in Kazakhstan and never asked the writer about his doings. His mother was a geologist and later resigned from her job and became a singer. The writer had no access to decent means of education as it clearly is depicted from the line “My education was left to the streets.” And he spent his most time in the streets exposed to criminality and roughness of street kids.
