My Greatest Olympic Prize by Jesse Owens talks about how the author put differences aside just because he was in love with the Olympics. The author was quite confident of winning the long jump event in the year 1936. He had broken a record the previous year and no one beat him to it for the next twenty five years.

As he proceeds to the long pit arena, he sees a German practicing his jumps. Quite aware of how Nazis tend to favor the Whites, he begins to feel inferior and insecure as a black. He fails in two out of three rounds, leading to disqualification if he fails in the final third round as well. It is at this point that the German introduces himself and gives Owens a tip that he follows wholeheartedly and gets qualified.
