Answer – The Best laid plan by Farrell Mitchell is a play on the burglary of the diamond shop. There are six major characters. Jack and Bill are burglars who have concocted a brilliant robbery plan involving their friend Cuthbert.
Wood and Spencer are the owner of the diamond shop they have decided to rob. Their butler Primrose provides the robbers with the information about the whereabouts of the key, without knowing their true intentions.
On the day of the robbery, Jack and Bill get caught redhanded by Wood and Spencer. Jack thought of such predicament beforehand and had made an escape plan with Cuthbert.
They were to give him a signal under the guise of opening and closing the window and Cuthbert is to come to their rescue dressed as a policeman. But Wood and Spencer knew from his boots that he was a robber and called the Scotland Yard police. In the end, it turned out that Primrose informed the owners of the shop and knew all along about their plan.
