Summary of the black veil by Charles Dickens
Answers
Charles Dickens, as a novel writer, is renown for writing in excessive amounts in order to describe people or the atmosphere, or for setting scenes. However, in his short stories, such as 'The Black Veil', he has to keep the story short, and so cannot afford to go into as much detail as he would prefer.
The short story "The Black Veil" written by Charles Dickens is about a doctor, a woman wearing a black veil and a boy. The story starts with a description of the weather and the mood of the doctor. As the doctor was keenly looking forward to any patient to arrive in the cold and harsh weather, the boy tells him of the arrival of a lady wearing a black veil. The notion of suspense and the mystery can be felt throughout the story. The doctor kept asking the lady as to what issue made her approach to him. But the lady said nothing which makes the reader sense some mysterious thing to happen at the end of the story. The lady opens up only at the end when she says that the life of a particular man is in danger but the doctor can not help the man from his death. The story ends in this suspicious dialogue of the lady which leaves everyone to think about the man and what would be the outcome of his in the coming morning.
