You might want to think twice before getting those important documents laminated. Banks are no longer accepting laminated documents. Reason: It is difficult to ascertain if laminated documents are original or duplicate. And with a WhatsApp message doing the rounds to this effect, people are panicking and flocking to de-laminators in the city.
People who have got their documents such as property, birth certificate, marksheets and convocation laminated are concerned about the damage de-laminating might cause to the certificates. “From the past three years, I am into the business of de-lamination of documents like sale deeds and educational certificates. Banks had announced years ago that they would stop accepting laminated copies, for documents pertaining to property mortgage. There were many documents that were forged to take loans from banks and also while selling property. The banks don’t accept laminated property documents anymore. But still there are people who still get documents laminated,” said Sankar H, who owns a de-lamination shop in Nagarbhavi.
So much is the demand for de-laminators in the city that they charge anywhere between in Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 for de-laminating a page. De-laminating a document takes around an hour and experts promise 99 per cent assurance that documents won’t be damaged in the process. Some people use acid to remove the lamination. This might damage the document.
