"The Fun They Had" is a futuristic and fictional story written by Isaac Asimov. The story is set in 2157, 17th march where Tommy, a thirteen year old boy, finds a real book. The words stood still on the yellow & cranky pages and it was strange for the two kids as the words did not move the way they did on screen.
This book was found by Tommy on the attic of the house, it was about schools and Margie hated schools because they had mechanical teacher, which was black and had a large black screen on which the lessons were shown. Also the students had to write their answers in a punch code and insert their test papers in the slot of the mechanical teacher. Their schools were in their home itself. The mechanical teacher used to teach at regular hours.
Both the kids later when reading the book, get to know that in the school's of earlier times, a human teacher used to teach students in a special kind of building in groups and gave them homework. All the students came together from the neighborhood and gathered laughing and playing in the schoolyard. They learned the same things and at the end of the day, they would go home together laughing joyously.
The story ends comparing the futuristic schools (story) and the schools of (present) todays generation. Margie and Tommy feel that the schools of todays generation are much more fun than the futuristic schools and they wondered how a human teacher could teach! They were thinking about the Fun they had !
