Misery or The Lament: Summary. The story tells about a father and his great despair for his dead son. Iona, the father, is a Russian sleigh driver who desperately tried to share his grief with strangers. ... It takes a powerful look at the lack of human involvement and compassion toward one man's grief.

This  poem is composed by PB Shelley. The poem is  product  of poet's disappointments and failures  in life. The youth of the poet  has  deserted  him and he is now incapable of enjoying  the  pleasures  offered  by the life  and  nature.Every word  of the  poem is charged  with an indescribable  feeling  of regret  and  disappointment. He  imagines that  he  is  standing  on the last  step of time. He  looks at  his past  life with a faint heart and feels  that  his future  days are  numbered  in  this world. He  regrets that  his youthful vigour and  joys of life  will not return any more. Now, his days and nights  are dull and  joyless. The  beauties of nature  , instead of  sending  a  thrill of  delight into his heart only intensify his grief.
