Summary of the golden crab:

The golden Crab is a Greek fairy tale. One day a fisherman catches some fish and comes home. Along with the fish he catches a golden crab too. His wife places the crab on a shelf above as it is shining. The crab starts talking and asks her for something to eat just as she feeds everyone. She is taken aback, but nevertheless gives the crab something to eat.

After he has eaten the fisherman takes his plate and he finds gold coins in it. This keeps happening until, one day, the crab asks the fisher-woman to go to the King and tell him that he wants to marry the princess. The fisher-woman does as she is bid.

The King realizes that this must be an enchanted Prince and tell the fisher-woman that it can happen only if the crab can build a huge wall higher than his tower and place gold, silver, and diamonds in front of the palace.

The crab gives the fisher-woman a stick and asks her to strike it at the place that the King says. She does so and the next day there appears all the things the King asks for. The princess marries the crab and he tells her the secret that he will be a crab by day and a man by night and that he can change into an eagle too.

Days go by and the Princess is happy and they have a child. The King is unhappy and wants her to marry a Prince. He arranges for a tournament, but in both these, the Princess chooses the crab again. Her mother is angered and she breaks the golden shell. The crab vanishes as the Princess betrays him and tells the queen who he is. The Princess cries her heart out.

An old man elsewhere is hungry and eats a piece of bread. Just as he is about to eat, a dog snatches it from him and runs. He chases it and lands himself in a palace underground. Once there, he is surrounded by a number of eagles that soon turn into young men once they bathe in the fountain. He then comes back home and learns that the Princess is always sad and is happy only when she listens to stories, so he decides to go and tell her the incidents that took place.

She asks him if he could take her there and he agrees.  No sooner does she see the eagles turn into young men, she recognizes her husband and they reunite. She stays there for three months more as her husband says that he is enchanted for three months more. After that, he transforms into a handsome young man and they both return to the palace.
