The poem “A Green Cornfield” written by Christina Rossetti was first published in 1875 in her book “Goblin Market and Other Poems”. The poetess recalls an afternoon which she spent on a cornfield. She realized the significance of “the million stalks” and found the reason for the human beings to praise fertility of soil along with its ability to reproduce food for them. The sight of butterflies soothes her and she listens to the chirping of skylarks. She is lost in listening to the sounds of different creatures and, intentionally, forgets about time as it enables her to cherish the natural beauty which remains unnoticed, usually.
