Summary of the poem a tragic story
Answers
Explanation:
Perception:
Students are asked to recollect from their childhood experience any of their mannerisms. They are also expected to recall how they overcame these and share any anecdotes related to it. This exercise will set the context for the poem in which a wise man tries to solve a problem of the pigtail hanging out from the back of his head which he wanted to be brought to the front.
Understanding:
After the poem is read aloud with proper stress, pause and intonations the students will be asked to relate the poem in their own words as it had been comprehended by them. Their understanding will be validated by putting forth questions like:-
- What made the sage upset?
- What did the sage swear to do about his pigtail?
- What solution did the sage find to change the place of the pigtail?
Analysis:
Students are asked to debate as to why the man was introduced as a sage whereas the act was that of a mad man. This will help in bringing out what the poet actually wished to convey(even wise men have frailities) in a humorous manner.
Synthesis:
As the poem is titled as ‘Tragic Story’, Students are asked to extract excerpts from the poem and relate it to some of the futile efforts which we make in our day-to-day life without achieving success.
Evaluation:
Students are asked to share (if they knew any) a few cases of similar frailties which some of the great people had.
Creativity:
Students are asked to write an essay capturing the central theme of the poem.
