This poem narrates the story of two friends, one is an Indian soldier and the other a Pakistani border guard. The poet narrates the painful feeling of partition in the year 1947. He admires the sense of duty in border guards who protect the our national borders day and night throughout the year. They keep family problems aside and focus on their responsibilty towards the country. One is sorrowful due to his wife's illness and the other is in pain because of his son's death. Both the border guards understand each other's suffering but find themselves in a helpless position.
