' I sit and think ' poem by JRR Tolkien is a classic presentation of an old man looking back at his past.
The poet uses spring and autumn to symbolise the youth of the speaker when he enjoyed and met many friends.
Then he uses winter as a symbol of death which will erase all memories from his mind. He regrets all that he would miss on earth which other children would enjoy.
In the end he wonders about life after death and tries to guess how the world would be after his death.
