Moniza Alvi writes in her poem Indian Cooking, the striking features of Indian Cooking as she observed it while her mother cooked it with lots of spices, ghee and other ingredients. She also talks about how she decorated rice pudding for the party with silver paper. She feels the cooking pan is a color pallet with different colors. She emphasizes that by having the Indian food she tasted the landscape and customs of her father's country. (Her father seems to be an Indian man.) In the end, she recalls biting hot chilies which was as if getting a fever.
