Summary of the poem "No Alarm on the Flight Deck"

The poem "No Alarm on the Flight Deck" is series of thoughts of the poet who is imagining about the pilot who in the cockpit. The poet write sthe poem in the wake of the news she heard in the paper about a pilot who had fallen asleep with automatic pilot and had to be woken up by the crew members when there was an emergency.

The speaker goes in to a series of thoughts one night sleeping in the airplane while she was travelling. While the rest of the passengers were asleep, the poet is on alert,  haunted by the thought that the pilot might not be awake. She is worried whether she and her co-passnegers are on a one-way ticket to heaven or to Washington DC. She imagines that the pilot may have loosened his tie and put his feet on the dashboard and sleeping like a baby while the flight is on automatic pilot and  suddenly wakes up at dawn and wonders where they have reached now. She says that maybe the pilot shrugs of his coat and as he wears it and yawns after the good night sleep, congratulating his co-pilot that they had done a great job with the journey and that they are about to land.

Finally thhe poet gives a message to the pilot on the behalf of all the passengers that he should not sleep when he is duty because he is responsible for the lives of so many souls, who probably would be travelling back again 6 weeks later.
