'On An Asian Poet Fallen Among American Translators’ is a poem written by Yasmine Goonaratne. In the poem, the author expresses her inner thoughts about her nation’s (Srilanka) suffering because of the colony administration of America. She explains that America is such a great country that it could be built huge in 200 years but the Americans find it difficult to cope up with or understand the art and literature of Asia. She expresses that only native Asians can understand the beauty of Asian literature and works of art. She says that America tries to influence Asia and they shouldn’t do that.
As the poem takes its form she starts terribly attacking the approach of America. Her mockery or her statements of thought on America’s great poets like T.S. Eliot who ran away from his native and Ezra Pound who went crazy through poems and Robert Frost who found a small satisfaction about the beauty of American landscapes through his poems.
Furthermore, she expresses her views that countries which all have their imperialistic attitude should beg for culture, artistry and craft from the Asian countries. Throughout the poem, she clearly expresses and boasts about the great culture and artistry of Asia.
