Answer:
THE BANYAN TREE
- BY RABINDRANATH TAGORE
- Near the Banyan Tree there was a pond where women used to fill their water jars, the sunlight danced on the water and the animals played. Through this scene, the poet wants to appreciate the beauty of nature and relive the pleasant memories of his childhood. It's nice to think of the birds that nested in and left the banyan's shaggy hair.
- Now that I think about it, the fig tree stopped counting the birds that nested in its hair, they spoiled it and went to other trees, to other skies. The banyan tree has forgotten them all and stands on the bank of the pond.
- But you certainly can't forget the little boy at the window, admiring his tangled roots and diving under the ground (he jumped out of the high window). Certainly not the women who would fill their jugs in the pond, as the shadow of the banyan tree would wade into the water and naughty pranks would pass them by.
- "Sleep to wake up" is a delicious image. The brightest image is that of sunlight dancing on the waves like a shuttle weaving a fine golden tapestry.
