The Bridge Builder by Will Allen Dromgoole is a beautiful poem about an old man crossing a chasm i.e.- canyon. This man, being an experienced traveler crosses the chasm with ease but is worried for the less experienced traveler who is to cross the chasm in the future. So, for the benefit of the youth, he begins to build a bridge across the chasm, making it easier to cross. This portrays the old man as a selfless, considerate and kind person.
When upon being asked why he was doing so by a fellow traveler, that too when he had finished crossing the chasm, the old man replied by saying that it was meant for the others who might find the harsh waters of the chasm difficult to cross.
