Heya friend,
Here is it:
The poem "The Frog And The Nightingale" is a satire on the shallowness, opportunism and commercialisation of art in today's world. It is a kind of parody of the human world wherein Vikram Seth has gone about to discuss and bring into lime light the negativities and the shallowness that fills the world and the society of human beings. Through the poem, he takes a dig at all those people who lack talent but yet are so manipulative and opportunistic that they destroy actual talent for their own selfish purposes.
The poem is also about commercialisation of art where people forget talent and become more money-minded and sell art, and perhaps even their own integrity of character for earning some fast bucks.
The frog in the poem is the representative of all those shallow minded and manipulative people who torture the talented individuals like the nightingale who prove to be too gullible for the world. The frog shoes a pettiness of character when he tries to drive out the nightingale from Bingle Bog just to regain his position as the 'unyielded king' of the Bog. He has no appreciation for art, infact has no knowledge of art. Yet, he manages to destroy the nightingale because of her blind faith and her belief in him.
MESSAGE OF THE POEM :-
The basic message being conveyed here is that one must believe in one's own self as each individual is a unique powerhouse of talent and capability. Vikram Seth emphasises that we must never sacrifice our individuality for the sake of someone else and avoid being gullible to believe other's manipulation. Art must be practiced for art's sake alone and we must stop making fashionable statements for art.
Thank you !!!
