In this poem, the poet has made a sad comment how a magnificent species of birds are dying out. They are decreasing in number. Our future generations will not be able to see this magnificent birds. They will see the cranes of their own kind in those large cities. They should also see the beauty of cranes as she quote: "The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged birds sings of freedom"
The beauty of cranes should be kept alive and free, they are not meant to be caged.
