QUESTION:-

Summary of the poem The Microscope

ANSWER:-

Summary of the poem The Microscope is:-

  • The poem The Microscope written by Maxine Kumin is an intriguing poem in which the poet tells the story of Anton Leeuwenhoek who was a scientific settler in a simply deceptive and who had an almost childish style which used to mask the depth of his main idea.

  • In the poem, the poet talks about Leeuwenhoek who sold "pincushions, cloth, and such," as an Employment which he disregarded for starting grinding of lenses for a microscope. Retained by the passion for inquiry of scientific matters, Leeuwenhoek used to consume his time mostly evaluating all the things that he could think which come under his lenses, things like fish scales, his blood and the bugs that are so small that they can be hidden in the water drop.

  • The irony of the poem is that the scientist is making with so much determination but the townspeople are not even interested in his invention. Town people were simply interested in the reason behind why his store was not open, and to fulfil their needs. The scientist was annoyed, the town people used to accuse him that he was crazy, they used to say that he should have been shipped off to Spain and called him "dope." In the last line of the poem the poet says that even though the scientist man was trying for invention and faced disapproval by the public, he managed to "got the microscope."

  • The main notion of the poem is that all the scientists in the initial phase when they try to first invent appear to be "crazy" to the people who are only interested in what is instantly appropriate to them. Only incredible scientists who are innovative and genius can proceed to work even though they are disapproved by those who are around them.
