                        The paradox of our times

                           

Our moment in history is paradoxical because we have taller structures but shorter tempers, bigger freeways but more limited perspectives. We buy more but enjoy less; we spend more but have less. With more comforts but less time, we have larger homes and smaller families. More degrees but less common sense, more wisdom but less discernment, more experts but more issues, more medicine but less wellness—all of these things are true today.

We've learned how to survive, but now it's time to live. We have increased years without decreasing life. We've been to and from the moon many times, yet we still struggle to cross the street to greet a new neighbour . Now that we've mastered outer space, let's move inside. We've accomplished more, but not better.

Do not forget to spend time with your loved ones because they won't always be there.

Always remember to truly mean it when you say "I love you" to your partner and other people you care about. When the hurt originates from deep within you, a kiss or an embrace will make things better.

And always keep in mind that life is measured by the moments that leave us breathless, not by the number of breaths we take each day.

The Dalai Lama's poetry is beautiful because it succinctly explains why our generation is unable to produce truly meaningful life.
