Answers
This poem is about shenai and the all-time master Bismillah Khan who originated from Benaras.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India for his contribution to music. Bismillah Khan first played the Shenai under the guidance of his uncle.
His tunes were deeply inspired by the river Ganges and its waves. He was the first person to play at Lincoln Central Hall, USA. He loved teaching children music and he also declined the offer to go and settle in the USA because he did not want to go far away from Benaras.
The poet compares the Shehnai of Bismillah Khan to magic. He says that all his life's cherished memories have vanished and only this shehnai music
remains.
The poet feels proud that he discovered the finest music which was losing
popularity in the ancient temples of rural areas.
He compares the success of Ustad Bismillah Khan with the authority of a
golden robed god and his death with the ending of a fragrance. He is
surprised how the shehnai maestro died calmly.
