The town Goldsmith is expounding on is designated "Reddish-brown": it isn't genuine, however a fanciful perfect one, perhaps one of the towns he had seen as a tyke and a young fellow in Ireland and England.

Goldsmith, the artist, comes back to the town that he knew as energetic and alive, and thinks that it’s betrayed and congested.
