An English version The Reddening Tree of popular Hindi short story of Himachal writer S.R Harnot ‘Lal Hota Drakht, has become the part of HP University Syllabus as it was included in the course of BA Part-II syllabus from this year.
The story has been included in the approved syllabus book titled ‘Life Unfolded’ published by the renowned Oxford University Press edited by Prof. V.K Khanna and Prof. Meenakshi F.Paul. This story has been taken with two renowned author’s stories i.e. The Parrot in the Cage by Mulk Raj Anand and Dinner For the Boss by Bhisham Sahni.
This is the great honour to a Himachal based author by HP University’s English Department whereas the Hindi Department of the same University never shown any interest in his writing and continuously debars the students who wants to do PhD on his writing work . This 154 pages book contains IV Parts and Part-II relates to short stories. Recently The Kerla University has also been taken his one Hindi Short Story-M.dot.Com in BA syllabus.
At first ‘Lal Hota Drakht’ story of Harnot was translated by Prof. Meenakshi F. Paul and included prominently in her translated book titled Short Stories of Himachal Pradesh published by Indus Publishing Company. Later the story has been honoured by Central University Dharamshala English Department by including this into M.Phil and PhD syllabus. In Hindi this was published in Harnot’s most popular Hindi short stories book-Darosh Tatha Anya Kahaniyaan published by Aadhar Prakashan Private Limited which was received International Indu Sharma Katha Samman and Himachal Academy Award.

"The Reddening Tree is composed by S.R. Harmon and it speaks of and reflects on the problems encountered by women and the adolescence class people. This story reveals about the problems encountered by women in a comprehensive way and belonging to the Brahmin family, in the setting of various cultures and rituals observed.
The story portrays the dilemmas faced by the ladies of the socially upper caste whose problems are never highlighted. In this, the Brahmin female in the house face the difficulties at the hand of these ceremonies, through the child of the family finds the means to protect her family from the clutches of these difficulties and to "get rid of it"."
