Some of the characters to name are Mr. Oliver, Miss Babcock, Ranbir, the whistling schoolboy, etc.
My favorite:
Though all the stories in the book are worth read. But I liked last story “The School Among the Pines”, the most. A very well-crafted story that tells the daily struggle of motivated young students to travel a long distance to reach the school. There is also a short debate on the famous Tehari Dam between two teachers in the story and that is worth mentioning to let the young generation what harm we are doing to nature. The story also throws little light on the reason how wild animals like leopard are forced to leave their homes and live in the countryside.
Conclusions:
The whistling schoolboy and other stories of school life is a wonderful collection of short stories. A book that parents and children can enjoy reading aloud together. A wonderful option to carry along while traveling. A good choice to develop and initiate reading habits in children.
