Answer:

It’s Saturday, I just grabbed this book and sharing, the whistling schoolboy review for you.

Introduction:

The whistling schoolboy and other stories of school life are a collection of short stories from the school memories of one of the greatest children author of all time Mr. Ruskin Bond. The author details some of the unforgettable incidents of his school days in the book. The funny, hilarious, weird experiences of a shy, quiet boy in his boarding school are mentioned in the charismatic Ruskin Bond style. This collection brings together the well-loved classics and new stories from the pen of Ruskin Bond.

The stories:

A bundle of relatable stories that very school-going child experiences and share with friends. The ghostly talks, the weird teachers, the strict principal, the favorite sports among the school friends are narrated in the book. There are stories of ghost experiences, missing principal, leopard in the village, friend separation, students traveling a long distance to reach school.

Every story told in the book is much relatable and filled with fun elements. The mischievous pranks that the students play on each other while in boarding are hilarious. In fact, some of the stories are such that made me felt I am reliving my school days.

All the stories in the book are interesting and fascinating.

The Characters:

There are real-life characters from the author’s life in his collection of stories. He mentions some of the funny, memorable and haunting times spent with these people while in school at Shimla.

Some of the characters to name are Mr. Oliver, Miss Babcock, Ranbir, the whistling schoolboy, etc.

My favorite:

Though all the stories in the book are worth read. But I liked last story “The School Among the Pines”, the most. A very well-crafted story that tells the daily struggle of motivated young students to travel a long distance to reach the school. There is also a short debate on the famous Tehari Dam between two teachers in the story and that is worth mentioning to let the young generation what harm we are doing to nature. The story also throws little light on the reason how wild animals like leopard are forced to leave their homes and live in the countryside.

Conclusions:

The whistling schoolboy and other stories of school life is a wonderful collection of short stories. A book that parents and children can enjoy reading aloud together. A wonderful option to carry along while traveling. A good choice to develop and initiate reading habits in children.
