Puraskar tells the story of a woman called Madhulika. The king of the area asks her for her farmland to host a festival. He is ready to pay a price but she refuses the amount as the land belongs to her family.
As days go by, poverty strikes and she finds it difficult to make both ends meet. Prince Arun comes over once again to meet her and take over the land and the building constructed on it. This time she readily agrees with the intention of making some fast money.
However, she soon regrets her action and confesses to the king. She begs for death as the prize for what she did because her love for the prince is unconditional.
