The "Voice of the Mountain" by Stepehan Crane is a tale about Popocatepetl, which is famished. Popocatepetl is a big creature who can not move in search of food in fear that the earth can become a land of holes by the King of All. Popocatepetl trusted a small creature but was fooled at the end of the day.

Explanation:

  • The Voice of the mountain is a story of where once upon a time, there was an old man called Popocatepetl who had been throned on a high rock, who couldn't raise his shoulders and tried to remain silent long. He was very hungry but none among the food he could see was he able to take because of his current position.
  • Next came his mate, an eagle, whom he asked for help to eat something to him as he fell rather famished, saying that on Earth there is this little creature: a little animal with two arms, two legs, a head and an exhilarating air that can invent something like this little animal says
  • Popocatepetl immediately asked that the eagle call the small animal. Popocatepetl presented himself in an incredible way during his meeting. "Dear, blessed little animal with two heads, two legs, a head and the very brave air, support me with my pain, he said to the little creature.
  • The unexpected occurred then. The small animal immediately asked for payment. Flushed, Popocatepetl threatened the survival of the little animal and demanded that he make Popocatepetl  wings. But, as the wings are huge ones, he told them that he’d be brining his comrades along to build the wings.
  • The little animal took him to his comrades after another, but in fact never made the wings that he had said he'd make. With that he remained ignorant and ignored Popocatepetl's lament over his wings
  • The moral lesson of The Voice of the Mountain is that you should never confide in strangers easily just because someone else has spoken good words about them. This happens to Popocatepetl, his trust to the little creatures has given him nothing but disappointment.
