The poem tells how the boy got encouraged to live a life of exploration and adventure and he was advised to go against the life of slavery.

Jack had a dreadful past at the age of 16 as he became a bush-ranger and robbed them and killed their stock.

It is like the story of Robin Hood who robbed rich people and gave it to the poor.
