In 1807, William Wordsworth wrote the sonnet, "The World is too much for us”. In this sonnet, he has described the dwindling relationship between the humans and nature. He states that in the earlier days, man would always appreciate and celebrate nature, however, due to increasing industrialization, this relationship has been severely affected.

The economic effect of industrialization has caused humans to constantly run after money and spend what they earn. It has completely controlled the human lives, since humans are always running after money or time. He also states that we have lost the spiritual connection with our surroundings, and no natural phenomenon can emotionally touch us. The humans do not any time to appreciate the beauty of the winds, moon and sea.

Finally, the poet has described the Greek paganism, where nature played a vital role in the human lives. He desires to stand on a pleasant island to glimpse and enjoy the beautiful seashores.

Though this sonnet offers no solution to the issue, it has expressed the beliefs and desires of the poet.
