summary of tiger in the zoo
Answers
The writer describes a tiger who is caged in a zoo. She implies that his cage is small and the tiger is furious for not being free. Then it is mentioned that he was not born to be caged but to roam around in a grassy jungle , waiting to hunt a deer or some other prey. He should be going about scaring people with his terror showing off his teeth. But Alas, he is caged instead, behind bars where he can do nothing but walk the little length of his cage, ignoring the visitors. He sleeps late at night and listens to the noises of the city while his bright eyes look at the bright stars.
In the poem 'A tiger in the zoo' , the poet 'Leslie Norries' contrasts a tiger when it is in its natural habitat and when it is imprisoned in a zoo. On a strarry night, the poet sees a tiger in a zoo. The tiger moves slowly up and down in his cage .He is full of anger but quite in his helplessness. The poet is moved to pity for the tiger. He says that the tiger should have been moving quietly in the shadows near some water hole ,and waiting for a plump deer to pas that way. But sadly, he is locked behind bars in a concrete cell. He takes no notice of the visitors and is looking at the brilliant stars with his brilliant eyes. Now he has to be content with merely looking at the stars. He is no longer free to move in his natural habitat and look at the brilliant stars from there.
