All the stories in this collection are based
on true incidents, most of them gathered
from my personal experience. The place
names are where the action actually took
place.
You can find them on the map. And the
atmosphere of each individual story is
absolutely true to life. Thus the Sunderbans
are heavily forested and teeming with
wildlife. The waterfront at Haldia is hard to
beat for desolation. Villagers in the coastal
areas of Orissa live in constant fear of
cyclonic storms. And there is in Bhimtal, a
cottage exactly like the one described in
the story ';Three on the Run'. The cave
above the river Saraur still exists but the
surroundings have changed. On our first
trip, many years ago, we took the only
available route to the cave, and that was by
swinging in an arc on aerial banyan roots.
But now there are steps, 555 down and 555
up, with steep paths linking the different
flights of steps. An arduous but
unforgettable experience!
