An inspirational and touching story of Jacopo and Nicola. They are two brothers.

Their age was 12 and 13. They do odd jobs and they live n city of Verona which is present in Italy. The poet use William Shakespeare`s famous play in a very beautiful way.

This is the story of two brothers wage a daily fight against extreme poverty and deprivation to sustain and treat their elder sister Lucia who is suffering from the tuberculosis of spine.

Cronin shows us that one may polish boots or sell newspaper , but it is the generosity of heart ,and the nobleness of purpose ,that actually determine whether one is true “gentleman”.

Summary  of Two Gentlemen of Verona

The story ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ by A.J. Cronin is a wonderful portrayal Jacopo (aged 12) and Nicola (aged 13), the two very young brothers, who stand as symbol of hope for the war torn Europe amidst the misery of world war. They impress the author with their exceptional behaviour which is far beyond their age.

The young brothers live a hard life, working all types of menial jobs such as, selling fruit, newspapers, shoe-shining, running errands, as guides, etc. They work for the sole purpose of providing for their sister's Lucia’s treatment. Their sacrificing nature and 'never-say-die' spirit are worth emulation. The author in them sees the hope of a more peaceful world in which people will dare to live like them.
