\underline{\bold {SUMMARY\: OF\: WANDERING\: SINGERS}}

The poem, Wandering Singers by Sarojini Naidu talks about a band of Hindu singers who travel from one city to another, one town to another and from one village to another to spread the message of love through their singing. They also play the lute: musical instrument with strings played like a guitar. the voice of the wind calls symbolizes the welcoming note and spirit of the people staying in the different cities, towns and villages. These wandering singers will not visit any place where they dont feel welcomed. Their wandering feet: walking slowly around or to a place often without any particular purpose: will pass through the echoing forest and echoing street as they sing on their way. For these singers, all mankind are their kindred: family and relatives: and their world is their home. Their lays: poems that are written to be sung: about the cities whose lustre: the shining quality of a surface: is shed. Their songs also speak about old and ancient battles of kings in the history of the land. The happy, simple and sorrowful things of everyday life and they hope to gather the dreams that they sow. They will go only if they hear and feel the wind calling their wandering foot-steps. There is no love that bids: to ask somebody to do something: them tarry: stay in one place when you ought to leave: and no joy bids them wait for the voice of the wind is the voice of fate: the power that is believed to control everything that happens and that cannot be stopped or changed

Answer:

The poem “Wandering Singers” by Sarojini Naidu is about the band of folk singers who wander from town to town and from village to village to spread the message of love through their singing. They play the lute; a musical instrument as they roam from place to place. The voice of the wind symbolizes the welcoming tone of the song that echoes through the forests and streets. To the wandering singers, all mankind are like their extended family and the world is their home.

The theme of the songs that they sing goes back to stories of ancient battles or of old kings. They also have songs about the beauty of women and about happy and sad things.

The wandering singers have no dreams or hopes of their own; they go wherever the wind calls them. No love can make them go slow or no joy can bade them to wait. The voice of the wind is the voice of their life and also their destiny.
