" We are seven " is a poem written by William Wordsworth and published in his larical Ballads. it describes the question between an adult poetic speaker and a " little cottage girl " about the numbers of brothers and sisters who is well with her. The poem turns on the question of whether to account to dead siblings as part of the family. At first the poet makes it seems as if the child does not know anything about death. This is due to the fact that she does not seem to understand that her siblings have dead. The little girl continuous to spend time singing of them and speaking with them as if they were still Alive. By the end of " We are seven " it becomes clear and that the girl understands more than it seemed. She show greater understanding through her acceptance of their death, and continued optimism. William Wordsworth himself suffered from the loss of his mother at age 8, the same age as this little girl in we are seven. He also lost his father when he was 13 years old. It is possible that the speaker is in we are seven symbolises the adult version of William Wordsworth while the eight-year-old symbolises his younger self.
