Summary of Will Durant's views on the 'origin of science'?

Will Durant was an 'eminent historian, educator, and philosopher'. According to him, science began with the priests in the temples who preserved the religious traditions and handed them down to the future generations throwing light with their explanations.

Science was also developed through agriculture because that was the basis of all existence.  Thus, the science of soil, geometry, calculations of lands and the science of metrology also could have come about. Counting and numbers and astronomy were ancient arts based on the movements of the heavenly bodies.

Thus, came the branches of the science of astronomy, time and calendars. The ancient methods of primitive medicine paved the way for future surgeries and other branches of medicine. These were the views of Will Durant on the 'origin of science'.
